The root of most of Asia’s environmental problems is urbanization. As
the population increases, so do the needs of the people to have more
clean water, clean air, and food. As Asia expands, so does it’s needs.
Sustainability is not as great of a concern in the large scheme of
things, as renewable resources are somewhat on the backburner, as these
resources are being exploited to over-compensate for economic losses.
Deforestation is a major threat, as it is reducing the soil quality and
destroying precious biodiversity. Agriculture land is not being farmed
correctly, with detrimental fertilization and irrigation practices being
commonplace, setting the stage for toxic and poor soils for farming.
Over fishing is yet another problem Asia faces, as fish make up an
enormous percent of Asia’s food intake. If measures are not taken to
control this situation, the marine eco system is greatly in danger.
