This area has also received much protection for the Bedouins who call it home. Recently, a program was designed to guard and preserve their customs with sustainable herding for their goat herders. Some of the rare animals that can be spotted in the wild here include the horned ibex and the Syrian wolf. It is this very same landscape that draws many visitors, however, simply to just immerse themselves within the setting of these gorgeous mountains. The Mujib Reserve, which rests upon the Dead Sea, provides breathtaking views of the sea. There are also red sandstone gorges that crest with waterfalls, and include fantastic river trails. Accommodations here include a “chalet village” which allows guests to stay right on the beaches of the sea. For a totally different wildlife experience, you can tour the Ajloun Forest Reserve. You can stay in cabins, or a tented lodge, while exploring historic archaeological sites, hiking forest trails, and get very much absorbed in the village way of life there. Jordan’s Eastern Desert holds a precious oasis that home to many migratory birds. The Azraq Wetland Reserve is a serene environment that provides visitors with a luxuriously comfortable lodge. The wetlands offer much in terms of exploration, and the contrast of the wetland meeting the desert is a gorgeous juxtaposition.

Jordan is a less explored land, by Western tourists. However, much has been done to lure in tourists who are interested in sustainable travel, and exploring the unique environment as well as biodiversity.
