South
America has many environmental issues, however the largest is definitely
due to deforestation. Every nation in South America is currently dealing
with this problem, particularly in the Amazon Basin. Severe damage has
been done to the biodiversity of the area, and massive overhauls have
been made in attempt to control, and replenish the destruction. Rampant
use of pesticides, fertilizer, improper management of sewage, industrial
pollution, and mining waste have contributed horrifically to water
pollution. Aside from the problems humans have created in regards to the
environment, nature also keeps things interesting with severe flooding,
the possibility of severe earthquakes along the Pacific coast, the
intense and dangerous windstorms, pamperos, in Argentina, and droughts
throughout the whole continent. In the mountainous areas, of which there
are plenty, landslides, rockslides, and volcanic activity can be deadly
and cannot be planned ahead for.
